Douro cruise - Douro Blended (Sundays) - Boat upstream and bus downstream |
From the city of Porto, the cruise starts by passing under some of the local historical bridges. Leaving Porto behind, the journey continues passing by the small villages and riverside homes. One of the most interesting parts of the journey happens when the boat is raised by a series of locks in the dams. The locks and dams tamed the Douro river where many boats were lost when the river was used to transport the wine. When the construction of the railway was concluded the transport of the wine was done by train. The terraced vineyards and wine producing 'quintas' are part of the Douro's beautiful scenery and are one of the trade marks of Northern Portugal. |
