Douro cruise - Douro Vintage (Saturdays) - Boat upstream and train downstream |
From Porto or Vila nova de Gaia, the journey starts by passing some of the famous bridges that connect both towns. As the cruise continues and the vast urbanized area is left behind, riverside homes and small villages appear on the steep banks of the river. Reaching the dams, the boat is raised through a series of locks. These locks and dams tamed the river and its unstoppable course. From the river, the view is absolutely breathtaking, passing by the terraced vineyards and the wine 'quintas' with its manor houses. Before returning by train to Porto from the Port wine town of Regua, you may visit some local wine producing 'quintas' and even sample one of the most famous wines in the world. | |
