Douro cruise - MS Douro Cruiser - 8 Days |
The Douro river makes its journey from the Spanish border in the East through a spectacular landscape emerging into the sea at Porto on the west Atlantic coast. The scenery is the demarcated Port Wine region of mountains and steeply terraced hills with vineyards. To tame its unstoppable journey a series of dams were constructed which have added to its great beauty. Regua lies in the margin of the river and is one of the most important towns and capital of the region. Both the grape growing area for Port Wine (2001) and the riverside area of Porto (1996) have been designated by UNESCO as World Heritage sites. |
