Douro cruise - Regua to Pinhao (Saturdays) - Boat upstream |
The Douro river runs from the Spanish border in the East through spectacular scenery emerging into the sea at Porto (Oporto) on the west coast. During its journey, the river passes through the demarcated Port Wine region of steeply terraced hills and mountains. The river has been tamed by a series of dams which have added to its great beauty. Regua is the most important town on the river and capital of the region. Both the grape growing area for Port Wine and the riverside area of Oporto (Porto) have been designated by UNESCO as World Heritage sites. |
