Douro cruise Regua to Pinhao - Boat upstream and train downstream |
Regua is the most important town on the river Douro and capital of the port wine area. From here the river passes through the demarcated port wine region of steeply terraced hills dotted with the white painted Port wine quintas. The boat passes Pinhao to which the Port Wine trade is slowly moving. Soon after Pinhao the schist soil ends marking the end of the demarkated Port Wine region and the scenery turns wilder. The journey follows the river Douro with stunning views of the surrounding countryside, which UNESCO has classified as a World Heritage Site. |
