Douro cruise - Summer cruise - 5 days |
The Douro river runs from the Spanish border in the East through a spectacular scenery emerging into the sea at Porto (also known as Oporto) on the west Portuguese coast. Its journey is made through the demarcated Port Wine region of terraced hills and mountains. Through the yaers, the river has been tamed by a series of dams which have added to its great beauty. Regua is the most important town on the river and capital of the wine producing region. In 1996, the riverside area of Porto was granted World Heritage Status by UNESCO. In 2001 the grape growing area for Port Wine received the same designation. |
