Hotel Principe da Beira was built in 2004 on the ruins of Fundao 19th century Seminary. Great care was taken by the architects to maintain the original structural design whilst incorporating excellent modern hotel facilities and comforts.
Many great Portuguese names from the arts and science world, such as Jose Hermano Saraiva and Virgilio Ferreira, studied at the Seminary which was a great source of inspiration to them. The 4 star Principe da Beira hotel stands on one of the slopes of Serra da Gardunha mountain range and has Serra da Estrela as a backdrop. It is a haven inside a nature environment in a Portuguese inland region with much to be discovered. Serra da Estrela mountain is Portugal’s top location for winter sports lovers and is approximately 40 kms away. In the summer months the area is very popular with walkers. The Hotel is also surrounded by the Historical Villages and Slate Villages of Portugal.
The hotel´s modern decor has been inspired by the surrounding moutain and is based on a very original concept. As each level of the mountain is dominated by specific vegetation and colours this is reflected on the various floors in the hotel. The decor on the ground floor inspired by the rich tones and soil of the cherry orchards which are found at the 500 metre level of the mountain. On this floor the 'A Cereja Restaurant' 'Terra Cafe', lounge, meeting rooms and the banqueting hall are all located. The first and second floors are at the 1000 metre level and feature the green and brown hues inspired by the Serra da Gardunha woods which surround the hotel. Some suites and standard rooms are located on these floors and benefit from splendid views.
The third floor, at the 1500 metre level, is inspired by the sharp blue and white tones of the Serra da Estrela snow. This floor comprises the Altitude Club, suites with wonderful views and standard rooms. The Hotel has 4 suites, 14 superior rooms and 44 standard rooms. All have ensuite bathroom, air conditioning, heating, TV, internet connection, mini bar, safe, radio and hair dryer. The Altitude club comprises the spacious superior rooms which are ideal for families and special celebrations. 2 rooms feature hydromassage and 7 a chaise long. The suites have a sitting-room and a balcony and enjoy beautiful views over the Serra da Estrela.
The 'A Cereja' restaurant, which benefits from a magnificent view of the mountain, offers a wonderful regional cuisine using carefully sourced natural ingredients.
