Built in the early 19th
century the Pestana Palace Hotel has been fully restored to its former
glory. This magnifient palace is now classified as a National Monument.
It is one of the main palaces in Lisbon (Lisboa in Portuguese).
It was built in 1904 for the Marquis of Valle Flor and his three daughters. There are many portraits of the children in the Palace. The Palace has many fine examples of the works of some the greatest artists of the period including ceiling paintings and portraits by Carlos Reis, one of the great Portuguese artists of the 19th Century. The Palace also houses a magnificent, consecrated Chapel which has seating for 40 persons. The conversion to luxury
accommodation, and the addition of two contemporary accommodation wings,
resulted in the Pestana Palace Hotel being awarded the international ‘MIPIM’
prize in 2002.
It is situated in the historical Alto de Santo Amaro quarter of the city and has magnificent views over the River Tagus. The Estoril coast and its excellent south facing beaches are only a short drive away and a little further are the attractive small towns of Cascais and Sintra. Lisbon is a fascinating capital city and its streets and monuments reflect many different periods in its history. Nearby are some of the most important monuments and museums in Lisbon including the Belem Tower, the Monastery of Jeronimos and the Monument to the Discoveries. The Congress Centre and the
Belem Cultural Centre, which host many international exhibitions and musical
events, are also within easy reach.
Pestana Palace has 173 rooms and 17 suites, of which 4 Royal Suites are located in the Palace. All rooms have a working desk, voice mail, air conditioning/central heating, cable television, in-house movies, fully stocked bar, in-room safe, robes and slippers and hairdryer. Internet connection and direct outside lines are available on request. The acclaimed ‘Valle Flor’
restaurant, serves Portuguese cuisine to the highest standard. Originally
the Grand Ballroom, the opulent restaurant with marbled columns and ornate
ceiling has a wonderful view overlooking the hotel's private park.
The Palace's business centre is equipped with photocopy service, fax, email, internet with high speed access and word processing. Other facilities at the Hotel include outdoor pool, indoor heated pool, scotch bath, jacuzzi, sauna, turkish bath and gymnasium. There are also non smoking rooms, 24 hour room service, laundry service and private hotel parking for 100 cars. There are many sports facilities nearby and a number of golf courses in the area. |
