Casa
do Xisto is a beautifully restored house built in schist,a type of stone
very common in this area but rather unusual in the rest of Portugal.
This
is also one of geological reasons why Port wine is so unique and can only
be produced in this region.
The
property is well maintained and has a 2,5 hectare garden with many unusual
shrubs and plants, including camellias and azaleas, which provide a blaze
of colour each season.
The living room is comfortably furnished and has a fireplace, bar, television and internet connection. There is also a wooden balcony connecting to the dining room which accommodates eight persons. The
fully equipped kitchen has fridge, dishwasher, oven, toaster, coffee machine
and kettle. The house also has a washing machine.
Casa do Xisto has a swmming pool, measuring 12 by 6 metres and a children 's pool. There is also a small lake where a couple of swans swim around freely. The city of Porto is just 25 minutes away and guests will enjoy a visit to the many attractions Porto has to offer. In particular, the Unesco World Heritage site and the Port wine lodges in Gaia on the other side of the river. A journey to the Douro Valley on a river cruise, by road or even on the famous railway, is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of the most breathtaking landscapes in Europe.
