The brightly painted boats of the fishermen are pulled up on the sand at the 'fishermen's beach' . Their traditional catch used to be tuna which was caught in long nets called 'Armacao'. and although the 'catch' is now tourists the place retains the name Armacao de Pera.

The fishermen still go out to supply the over 100 restaurants in the resort but also many of them also take tourists for a trip along the coast line visiting the coves, rock formations and grottos.

The beach is excellent for children as the water is calm and the slope is gradual. The beaches in front of the old fishermen's chapel of Senhora da Rocha (Our Lady of the Rocks) are some of the prettiest in Portugal and are much photographed.

The hotels has 189 bedrooms of which 108 have a sea view which includes the 6 junior suites. All the rooms are air conditioned and have en-suite bathrooms, Satellite television, telephone and tea making facilities.

In addition to the main restaurant, the Hotel Garbe also has the Raj Indian Restaurant, both of which have a superb view. In addition there is a snack bar near the pool and the sun terraces.

The management are able to arrange special interest holidays which include bird watching, walking, natural history. lawn and short mat bowling, golf, fishing, bridge, horse riding and photography

The pool is heated in winter for the benefit of out of season visitors.

The are many golf courses within a short car drive with the nearest being the 18 hole Salgados courseand the courses at Vale de Gramancho and Vale de Pinta giving 27 holes at Carvoeiro Golf Club.
